The Department of the House of Representatives is seeking applications from those interested in directly supporting the work of the House of Representatives and members of Parliament at Parliament House in Canberra.About the roleThe occupant of the role will lead and manage a team of approximately 30 (principally non-ongoing sessional) staff performing duties for the Department and the operations of the House of Representatives chambers. The occupant of the role will undertake and oversee messengerial duties in the House of Representatives chamber and Federation chamber in parliamentary sitting weeks. The occupant of the role will ensure that Messengerial Services staff will support the clerks at the table within the chambers by delivering messages, anticipating procedural requirements, and responding to the Speaker.Working under direction, the occupant of the role will perform complex staff management and rostering functions and will ensure that departmental information and requirements are effectively communicated to the Messengerial Services team. The occupant will assist with the delivery of ceremonial events in the House of Representatives, such as the opening of parliament and guest of government visits.The occupant of the role will have demonstrated leadership skills, the ability to work with limited supervision and demonstrated knowledge of parliamentary procedure, or the capacity to develop this quickly.Contact informationWe are committed to fostering a respectful and safe work environment.
