Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of mobile equipment, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently and in compliance with company standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical maintenance, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage and motivate a team. 

Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure safe execution of maintenance work as per the agreed schedule by collaborating daily with maintenance staff. Providing clear direction and expected outcomes in safety, quality of repair and turnaround times.
  • Ensure regulatory competency and compliance of individuals is maintained.
  • Manage the planning and execution of unplanned (break-in) work and the re-scheduling of tasks as required.
  • Oversee all parts requisitioning, disposal of unusable parts and classification of reclaimable and reusable parts in relation to repairs.
  • Prioritise and assign work, provide instruction, assistance and direction to all staff and contractors.
  • Responsible for workshop tooling. Ensuring unsafe tooling is attended to promptly.
  • Regular workshop floor inspections to oversee maintenance practices are within the safety guidelines and standard operating practices.
  • Conduct safety incident investigations and conduct a proactive effort to reduce / eliminate incidents.
  • Collaborate with other Maintenance Supervisors to manage personnel and equipment by priority.
  • Facilitate safety and end of shift meetings.
  • Oversee the servicing, maintenance and repair of plant equipment and components, conducting safety and technical inspections.
  • Review on a continuous basis service records and documentation relating to parts, work in progress, temporary repair register, work backlog and maintenance records.
  • Promote work management process discipline within the team and conduct regular system compliance checks to ensure adherence.
  • Ensure that team members initiate appropriate master data changes (create, change or delete) to task lists and or work instructions.
  • Provide resource levelling data to enable effective scheduling.
  • Appraise the accuracy of work requests and scoping prior to approval.
  • Ensure alignment and commitment of resources to the work schedule.
  • Provide on the job training and hands on technical assistance to apprentices and tradespersons as required and demonstrate use of test equipment and test procedures.
You, the Person

To be successful, you will be a self-motivated, decisive leader with well-developed problem-solving skills, you will be trade qualified and have proven ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively. Experience in a similar role together with your exposure to industry maintenance planning techniques and computerised maintenance systems will be highly regarded. This role is offered on an 8/6 roster cycle.
