About the Role
As part of the Water, Waste and Energy Directorate, Asset Solutions operates, maintains and manages the active assets associated with the Sewage Treatment Plants and is also responsible for upgrade projects to expand Water, Waste and Energy's asset base.

The position is required to manage a workforce to meet the operational requirements of the city's sewage and recycled water treatment processes. The position liaises internally with a wide range of City personnel and externally with the general public, contractors and suppliers.

Key deliverables of the position

  • Provide strategic and operational advice for recycled water & sewage treatment plant services delivered on a 24/7 basis.
  • Continuously strive to achieve compliance with the Sewage Treatment Plants Environmental Authority (EA) licence conditions.
  • Prepare budgets, set targets and work priorities.
  • Monitor the performance of the Sewage Treatment Plant to meet business targets including revenue, expenditure, safety, quality and all identified Key Performance Indicators.
  • Supervise staff and be involved in the recruitment and selection process.
  • Substantiate, investigate and resolve queries and complaints.
  • Engage in consultation and prepare correspondence, memos and performance and technical reports for distribution to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide strategic technical advice to other sections, other levels of government and the general community.
  • Work closely with Water, Waste and Energy's Project Managers to help in the planning, design and delivery of Sewage Treatment Plant upgrades, asset renewals and refurbishments.
About You

You will impress us with your proven experience in supervising a high-performing team to deliver compliance in a strict regulatory environment and will have the desire to make workplace health and safety your number 1 priority.

To be successful in this position, you will bring;
  • A high level of interpersonal, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills with an ability to articulate complex issues, coordinate effective consultation and manage conflict in a dynamic environment.
  • The ability to prioritise problems, gather and analyse information to identify improvement opportunities and engage the right people to reach better outcomes.
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills with demonstrated effectiveness in applying project management to achieve goals.
  • A personal drive and integrity to provide leadership, deliver successfully under pressure, exercise sound judgement and learn continuously.
  • Have demonstrated capacity to identify significant issues in a regulatory environment and recommend appropriate responses and solutions.
  • Completed a Certificate 3 or higher in Water Industry Operations, preferably focussed on wastewater treatment.
