Purpose of the Position
As a Support Worker at Dawn House, you will play a crucial role in delivering compassionate and professional support to our clients. Your efforts will help create a secure and nurturing environment for women and children in crisis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients.
- Conduct weekly inspections and daily room checks to ensure the safety and cleanliness of shelter rooms.
- Manage and monitor the inventory of cleaning products and emergency relief funds.
- Assist with food and resource shopping as needed.
- Provide transportation for clients as required.
- Ensure new arrivals are welcomed, oriented to the premises, and informed about house rules.
- Encourage client participation in activities within and outside the shelter.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
Organisational Responsibilities:
- Adhere to Dawn House policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
- Participate in staff activities and supervision sessions.
- Report any child protection concerns immediately to the Team Leader and comply with mandatory reporting requirements.
- Engage in continuous improvement and professional development.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain up-to-date client information in the Specialist Homelessness Information Platform database.
- Perform data entry and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Provide written monthly reports to the Team Leader.
Selection Criteria:
- Ability to follow set procedures and maintain data management systems.
- Understanding of issues surrounding violence against women and feminist practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with women of diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Knowledge of Child Protection Acts and mandatory reporting legislation.
- Ability to obtain NT Police clearance and Working with Children’s clearance (Ochre Card).
- Current NT drivers licence.
- Experience in the community or human services sector (desirable)
