Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
Aquila Mine are currently seeking Surface Infrastructure Fitters on a permanent basis to support the Surface Coordinators in maintaining systems and standards that facilitate the management of equipment to meet business objectives. Our Aquila Mine, located in Middlemount, QLD, won the Outstanding Mine Performance category at the 2023 Australian Mining Prospect Awards.
The Surface Fitter is accountable for ensuring all maintenance activities undertaken are performed in line with safety and statutory requirements. You will be responsible for all mechanical activities in your work area to safely meet daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance targets. Contribute to Aquila Mine in achieving its goal of zero harm by bringing your ability to work safely and collaborate with teams in order to maximise production output and drive efficiencies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake mechanical maintenance work on surface infrastructure of the underground mine, including buildings, support structures for underground, compressors, fixed plants, water treatment plants, ventilation fans and gas drainage works, in order to maintain safe and productive equipment
- Actively inspect and audit all work areas and apply your statutory obligations as required
- Work proactively with on-shift peers and collaborate with multiple departments include electrical, mechanical and operational supervisors
- Implement the mechanical maintenance plans that optimize the mechanical maintenance performance of the mine
- Strive for continuous improvement to create efficiencies and improve performance
- Ensure compliance with all people, safety, technical, operating and business systems, behaviours and culture in your area
- Hold a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or equivalent
- You will have proven mechanical fitting experience (underground experience is desirable, not essential)
- Fixed Plant and Workshop fitters with mine site experience are encouraged to apply
- Experience with SCATA systems and SAP (desirable)
