The Co-Director Nursing & Operations is responsible and accountable for the daily operational activities within the program, (Critical Care, Emergency, Surgery, Anaesthetics, Gastroenterology and Perioperative Services) and for the delivery of clinical services within allocated resources, ensuring that service activity is consistent with organisation performance targets and clinical standards.
The Co-Director Nursing & Operations is a member of the executive team and reports to the General Manager with professional reporting lines to the Director of Nursing & Midwifery. The position will work collaboratively with the Medical Co-Director(s) and will actively contribute to the overall leadership and management within the clinical program and will be responsible for the development and delivery of the program annual business plan, inclusive of implementing organisation wide initiatives and delivering local improvements and projects that improve performance, workplace culture and organisational reputation. This role can deputise for the Director of Nursing and Midwifery and General Manager, The Sutherland Hospital.
The Co-Director Nursing & Operations will be responsible for the professional development, education and research of nurses and support staff within the clinical program, and in driving nursing related professional strategy/initiatives in line with Professional Nursing Plans at both the facility and SESLHD level.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

 A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria

  1. Registered Nurse who holds current unrestricted registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  2. Holds tertiary management qualifications or equivalent work experience relevant to the role and demonstrated evidence of recent professional development to further enhance leadership and management competencies.
  3. Demonstrated experience and competencies in organizational change management and achievements of measurable outcomes.
  4. Demonstrated broad clinical, operational and strategic experience at a senior level within a complex health care environment, with an ability to function as part of a senior management team working successfully with other professional and disciplines in the management of health care services
  5. Demonstrated high level verbal, written with an aptitude to utilize relevant information technology platforms and ability to provide clear and concise business plans and reports.
  6. Demonstrated extensive experience in human resources and financial management within a complex health care service.
  7. Demonstrated in depth knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care and the ability to motivate, inspire, and lead staff to achieve service and clinical outcomes.
