About the Role:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a System Controller to join the Network Control and Operations team on a 24/7 rotating day/night shift roster based at our Head Office in Melbourne CBD in a permanent capacity.
The role itself is responsible for the control, monitoring, coordination, recording, planning and managing of switching activities during emergency, unplanned and planned events. This covers complex subtransmission, distribution, low voltage networks and transmission generator connection points. Responsibilities are applied to Rural, Urban and CBD environments, also involving assets at the interface with other operating authorities, co-generation companies and HV customers.
This critical role also facilitates safe access to the network taking into account factors such as safety, operational procedures, equipment limitation, system loading and available resources to allow such access. The role also requires work as a solo System Controller, working without supervision, to handle planned and emergency situations.
**Please note that this is shift role, requiring the successful candidate to work four 12-hour day/night shifts across a rostered period*
What you’ll deliver:
Coordinate all switching activities, responding to planned and unplanned outages, assess and prioritise emergency situations
Provides advice and direction to internal personnel, external operational authorities and major customers
Maintains system information databases and system operations drawings
Plan field electrical operations, including the preparation of switching instructions
Effectively use computer based systems to plan and monitor the network ensuring system reliability, quality, utilisation requirements and high level of customer service are achieved
Take ownership and monitor the electrical networks. Monitor and action abnormal network scenarios, by recording issues, setting priorities and coordinating with resources to ensure follow up is undertaken and network is returned to normal.
Maintain accurate and timely outage information in a real-time switching environment for the benefits of internal and external stakeholders
Monitor the effectiveness of operating practices and procedures and assist in the revision and development of new procedures where appropriate
Continually review current Control Room processes, procedures, systems and tools, developing improvement solutions and implementing these where appropriate.
To succeed in this role you’ll have:
Certificate of Technology (Electrical), Certificate IV Electrical, Associate Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering or equivalent Tertiary based qualifications
Working knowledge of the Transmission, Sub Transmission & Distribution Network, its primary and secondary components, design, construction, operation practices, maintenance, control, communication and protection requirements
Experience in Field and/or Zone Substation Operating is preferred.
An understanding of Operational & fault management processes and practices for the electrical network
Experience working in Faults Management, Field/ Zone Substation, and solid understanding of SCADA and Outage Management System
Experience in planned access job planning
Detailed knowledge of the Electrical Safety Instructions (the Green Book), operational procedures, supplementary procedures and general electrical industry procedures and practices.
High level computer aptitude required.
Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms with both internal and external customers.
A demonstrated commitment of health and safety (through an understanding of the principles/concepts of the jobs)
