Position Overview
Reporting to the C2 Network Manager, the System Administrator is responsible for the continuous efficient operation of the CTC-LIS (Combat Training Centre – Live Instrumented Systems) IT network and the maintenance of its associated hardware and software. The System Administrator is responsible for understanding all IT functions of the CTC-LIS.
This role will require the incumbent to spend significant time deployed with the CTC-LIS to various Australian Army training ranges.
Primary Responsibilities
Support System Establishment and Test and Evaluation Phase
During this phase personnel in this position will:
- Develop a thorough understanding of the CTC-LIS IT network and systems architecture.
- Develop the Standard Operating Procedures for the CTC-LIS network.
- Conduct system maintenance and security updates.
- Assist in the development of IT training for Tactical Analysts.
- Provide IT assistance to the Scripted Rotations.
- Establish liaison with IT support providers for both software and hardware aspects of the CTC-LIS IT network.
- Support other internal teams with the operation, service, and maintenance of a wide range of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and bespoke equipment.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance system performance and participate in the deployment of new technologies and systems.
- Provide training and mentoring to junior team members.
Operation and Support/Maintain Phase
During this phase personnel in this position will:
- Setup and establish the IT network in the Exercise Control Facility for each Exercise.
- Operate and maintain the CTC-LIS ECC (Exercise Control Centre) facility IT network and server systems.
- Ensure database and file system reliability through backup and systems maintenance of IT equipment in the ECC facility and depot facilities.
- Provide fast and effective technical support and solutions.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide input into development of system upgrades and technology insertion to the CTC-LIS network.
- Train Tactical Analysts in the operation of software applications and,
- Conduct system analysis for specific applications and ensure there is compatibility between applications for different components of the CTC-LIS IT equipment.
Authorities, Delegations and Secondary Duties
During this phase personnel in this position will:
- Maintain an understanding of the CTC LIS telemetry network and its architecture.
- Conduct test events for system upgrades and introductions of new software/hardware.
- Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures. Implementation of individual obligations in this regard;
- Compliance with the requirements of the Cubic Quality Systems as they relate to your areas of activity;
- Alerting the organisation to potential, or known, problems that affect the quality of Cubic products and services, to support a pro-active, prevention-based approach to the delivery of quality outcomes at Cubic;
- Providing input and offering recommendations for the improvement of Company processes and standard procedures.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Essential
Sound technical skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Windows system administration (server & client support)
- Windows Server 2016 & Active Directory
- Windows 10 & Microsoft Office 2016
- Proficient in server networking and knowledgeable in LAN, WAN, and various server and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, ICMP, SMB etc).
- Degree qualified in information technology or related discipline, or equivalent experience in a Systems Administration role, preferably in a medium to large IT environment.
- Server virtualisation, particularly VMware vSphere
- Manual Class “C” Drivers licence
Desirable
- Knowledge and/or experience with:
- Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration.
- Perl/Python/PowerShell Scripting
- Strong familiarity with Active Directory, SAN connectivity, and operating system/application hardening.
- Distributed interactive simulation protocol

- CentOS/RHEL or other Linux
- Industry Certification for Linux, Windows, VMware, and/or Cisco Networking
Position Specific Security Clearance Requirements:
Minimum security clearance of Baseline on commencement, with up to NV2 if required.
Condition of Employment:
Successful outcome of a National Police Check
Ability to obtain and hold an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency security clearance
