This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024 with possible extension

Kiara College is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Career Practitioner to support career development and pathway planning for students.

Career Practitioners should have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers and industry. They develop career education and career learning programs as required, source and provide high quality, accurate, unbiased, and current career pathway and labour market information and encourage individual pathway planning across Years 7 to 12.

To be competitive for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies and training providers along with knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector is highly desirable. Career Practitioners are also expected to have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers and industry.

If you don’t hold a recognised Graduate Certificate in Career Development, you must be willing to complete a qualification - which will be funded by the Department. Time will be made available for the successful applicant to complete the qualification, and study will be incorporated into the role in the first 12 months. If you already hold an equivalent qualification, recognition of prior learning may be possible.

The successful applicant appointed to the Career Practitioner position will be required to:

  • Attend a two-day induction program.
  • Complete a Graduate Certificate in Career Development if you don’t already hold one.

Kiara College is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in the Performing Arts, Agriculture and ongoing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) redevelopments where students can capitalise on real life and industry standard applications of skills in these areas. Catering for Years 7-12, Kiara College offers comprehensive and innovative programs that support students to achieve their potential. Students can follow an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), General, VET or Big Picture Education pathways, preparing them for university entry, TAFE, or employment. Our partnerships with tertiary institutions such as UWA Aspire, ECU UniPrep and North Metro TAFE facilitate students’ success beyond school. We offer two Specialist Programs: Agriculture and Basketball. Students are also able to study Contemporary Music.

We have a diverse student population of over 540 students who originate from over 20 different countries. A little over 30% of our students identify as Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
