Appointment Pool

Rockingham Senior High School Education Support Centre (SHS ESC) is seeking to establish a pool of Teacher - Education Support for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2. 2025.

Rockingham SHS ESC is an Independent Public School for students in Years 7-12 with special educational needs and is co-located with Rockingham Senior High School. The Rockingham SHS ESC community is committed to “Building Independent Futures” by making a positive difference in the lives of young people with complex and challenging behaviours.  We believe that all our students can learn and be suitable at school and in the wider community.

Suitable applicants will assist in the provision of specialised Education Support programs and classes, tailored to the needs of small groups of students. They will deliver differentiated teaching and structured learning environments in which the required instructional, curriculum and environmental adjustments support all students to achieve to their potential.

Suitable applicants should be motivated, compassionate, flexible, highly organised, and possess a deep knowledge of pedagogy specific to students with disability. Highly developed classroom management skills are seen as advantageous, to create the safe and caring environments required for optimal learning to take place, as is the use of collaborative planning to support targeted and sustainable behaviour interventions. Proficiency in the use of assessment to identify ability, interests, progress and areas for development is essential as is the demonstrated ability to develop plans / programs aligned with identified individualised student outcomes. Suitable applicants will possess outstanding communication skills and demonstrate leadership within the classroom and wider community.

Our four priorities are designed to set conditions for successful learning for our students from the beginning of high school to their transition to adult life. We have established a strong improvement agenda, which is grounded in evidence from research and practice and expressed in terms of improvements in measurable student outcomes. A high priority is given to school wide analysis and discussion of systematically collected data on student outcomes, including academic, attendance and behavioural outcomes and student well-being. We are driven by a belief that every student is capable of successful learning.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy..

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
