This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Coastal Lakes College (CLC) is an Independent Public School (IPS) seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent, and enthusiastic teacher of Australian Sign Language (AUSLAN) with excellent interpersonal skills and curriculum knowledge.

The successful applicant will ideally be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success for all students is celebrated. The successful applicant will ideally possess knowledge and understanding of the AUSLAN curriculum, displaying current and effective teaching practices and be supportive of the College’s ethos, strategic goals, and directions. We are looking for an applicant who is creative in their approach and recognises student individualities. The ideal applicant will provide an inclusive and differentiated education environment that fosters children’s learning and development. It is highly desirable for the successful applicant to have knowledge and skills in teaching AUSLAN to students with complex behavioural and learning needs and to students with low literacy and low level language skills.

The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate, motivated, and skilled educator who is committed to improving outcomes for every child, every day, through our whole of college approaches of explicit teaching and instructional strategies. They will pursue excellence in teaching, develop high quality teaching and learning programs and preferably have a strong understanding of how to meet the social-emotional learning needs of their students.Background knowledge and a working understanding of  Zones of Regulation and You Can Do It, is desirable but not essential. It is desirable that the successful applicant possesses a high level of collaborative practice, together with interpersonal skills, to enable effective participation and engagement within the school and community to purposefully build partnerships.

Located in Lakelands, a southwestern suburb of Perth, in the City of Mandurah, our school opened in 2019 and caters for students in Year 7 to 10, with Year 11 students commencing in 2023. We are a fast growing and innovative College which includes an Inclusive Education Hub for students with moderate to severe and profound disabilities and will cater for students in Years 7 to 12 by 2024 across the College.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
