Are you an experienced teacher of Italian or in your early years of Italian teaching aspiring to contribute to a highly successful Languages program and/or be mentored by experienced practitioners? Have you an ability to nurture successful students in a relevant learning community that is innovative, responsive and accountable? This is a permanent 0.7 FTE position commencing Term 2, 2024. There may be the opportunity to increase the teaching role and negotiate a higher FTE annually according to the needs of the school.
Lesmurdie Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a passionate, competent and motivated Languages (Italian) teacher who is receptive to change and caters for the learning styles of twenty first century students. In addition, we are seeking a teacher who will engage with students in the Italian language applying contemporary understandings of best practice around second language acquisition. You will ideally work collaboratively in a small team environment, with all members of the school and, with a wider community to provide quality educational experiences through promoting the school's vision and strategic directions. You should be reflective in assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment, underpinning our core values; Curiosity, Aspiration, Respect and Environment.
With high expectations and a strong commitment to excellence, the successful applicant should display a willingness and ability to effectively teach students from Years 7 and 8 WAC: Languages P to 10 syllabus. Any future timetables will allow for preferences, if the successful candidate would like to teach Years 9 WAC: Languages P to 10 syllabus or 10 Curriculum Framework syllabus. In Years 11 and 12, students are enrolled in Certificate II and Certificate III Applied Language: Italian, this requires a Certificate IV in Teaching and Assessment, which is not required for this appointment. Detailed knowledge of the West Australian Curriculum: Languages, is desirable. All Languages teachers have a role in leading curriculum planning in the learning area, as well as promoting language learning across the school community.
Our school is nestled in the beautiful Perth Hills, surrounded by the natural environment. The Languages Learning Team has its own classrooms, break out areas, an Italian Language Assistant 3 days a week, and is supported by the school community. Italian is the only language offered and all its in-take primary school offer Italian as well, making this partnership a uniquely functional, progressive and educational environment with a long language learning pathway/journey for students and staff through the Bibbulmun Network.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
