Job description

Perth Montessori is seeking an enthusiastic Arts Teacher (Music and Visual Arts) (0.2 - 0.4) to enrich our team starting Term 2 (15 April 2024).

Located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja in Burswood, Perth Montessori offers authentic Montessori education for ages 0-18. Our school is committed to personalised and inclusive learning, fostering a tight-knit community where every individual is valued. We are dedicated to nurturing our students through principles of resilience and respect, encouraging them to grow into empowered individuals.

The Role:

The ideal candidate will have a love of sharing the arts with students from early childhood to adolescence in a multi-age, Montessori learning environment. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and inclusive music and Visual Arts education to students across various grade levels (Pre-Kindy to Year 9). This role requires a creative educator who is not only passionate about fostering a love for the arts among students, but who is versatile, courageous and flexible. The time fraction may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Your key responsibilities are to:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in both music and Visual Arts.
  • Develop units of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives.
  • Instruct students in music theory, instrumental skills, vocal techniques, and various art mediums including drawing, painting, and sculpture.
  • Organize and lead classroom activities designed to promote artistic expression and appreciation for music and Visual Arts.
  • Assess and record students' progress, providing feedback and reports to parents and school administrators.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and administration to integrate the arts into broader educational programs and school events.
  • Manage classroom resources and maintain a tidy and orderly environment.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current with best practices in arts education.
  • Encourage students to engage in creative problem-solving and critical thinking through the arts.
  • Facilitate performances, exhibitions, and other showcases of students' work.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed., Dip.Ed., MTech etc.,) with specialisation in at least one of music or Visual Arts.
  • Ability and willingness to teach in both disciplines.
  • TRBWA registration (or ability to obtain this)
  • Proven experience as a music and/or Visual Arts teacher, with a strong portfolio of work.
  • Excellent knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy as it relates to music and Visual Arts education.
  • Ability to play one or more musical instruments and adequate proficiency in various art forms.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the arts and education.
  • A commitment to Montessori philosophy and pedagogy, including aligning your practice to the fundamental tenets of the approach.
  • Commitment to undertake school-provided PL in Montessori education.
