We expect that all of our staff are culturally responsive. The successful applicant will ideally be committed to ongoing self-reflection, expanding your knowledge and improving practices through working collaboratively with your colleagues and the community. We are looking for applicants whose approach will be flexible and adaptive, as you understand the nuances and implications for your teaching, as you get to know your students, their families, and communities.

Ideally, you will have a willingness to get involved in community, school, and social events during, and outside of, regular school hours.

We welcome applications from existing fixed term and permanent teachers, including prospective graduates and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers. Area of qualification of the successful applicant should be complemented by strong literacy and numeracy skills. An interest or experience in English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) will be highly valued.

Our school

Bayulu RCS caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school is located on Gooniyandi country, 15km from the town of Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley region.

Our vision is to provide a safe and stimulating environment where Aboriginal culture is embraced, taught and celebrated, and students are encouraged to reach their academic potential so they become proud, strong and resilient members of the community.

There's a deep sense of belonging at our school with staff building strong relationships with students and the community. Our school's commitment to every student's learning is tangible. We focus on reading, writing, mathematics and Aboriginal culture from the moment children start school, to ensure every child achieves their best.

The location and community

Our community has a strong affinity with our school that goes back generations. It is visible in school assemblies, NAIDOC Week events and sports carnivals where the generations prior - parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts - come in to reminisce, look at old photos and share stories with our students.

The majority of our students live in one of six nearby indigenous communities: Bayulu, Gillarong, Joy Springs, Ngalingkadji and Mimbi. Indigenous students comprise 92% of the student population, most of whom speak Kriol as their first language and Standard Australian English as an additional language. Connection to culture is very strong, with all students participating in either the Gooniyandi or Walmajarri language and cultural program.
