Your Opportunity
Mission Australia's Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) provide young people and their families’ access to a comprehensive range of free and confidential alcohol and other drug services.
Residential Rehabilitation aims to provide young people with a friendly, supportive, and structured environment to complete a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Its focus is to provide both physical and emotional safety while they engage in treatment to transition back into the community.
You will be responsible for leading a team of approx. 16 staff who provide intensive support to young people aged 12-21 years who are managing their withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs and/or take time out from environmental influences and pressures. The role requires that you provide of supervision, guidance and support to the team as well as be responsible for auditing of case notes and ongoing reporting functions. You will maintain a small case management load.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to referrals of clients to the service from internal and external support services and conduct over the phone and formal face to face assessments of suitability for support
  • Undertake assessments and intakes for clients, including all necessary paperwork and application forms
  • Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on a range of complex and sensitive issues and assist others in the resolution of conflict
  • Assist staff with the day-to-day running of the service by providing supervision and programme support in line with program outcomes
  • Provide intensive ongoing person-centred case management in line with MA’s National Case Management Approach and review progression against case plan.
  • Contribute to staff performance discussions when required including setting priorities and outcomes, planning and organising work and monitoring workflows
  • Professional approach to the role including maintaining professional boundaries
  • Provide On call support on a rostered basis for staff providing DAYS Residential Programs after hours
  • Lead the team, developing a positive team culture and effective people management.
Requirements for Success
With a significant background in values-based leadership in the AOD, and child, youth & family, sectors you will be confident in case management, assessment processes, and ability to proactively lead a multidisciplinary team. Other requirements include:
  • A Degree or Diploma in Social Welfare/Social Science/Youth Work and a minimum of three years' experience in a leadership or case management role.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with vulnerable people and the issues impacting them such as AOD, FDV, Homelessness and Mental Health challenges.
  • Exceptional experience leading teams, developing a positive team culture and effective people management.
  • A positive and person-centred approach with a strong guiding belief about everyone’s capacity to grow within and beyond their current circumstances.
  • A sound understanding of Mission Australia’s Values and application of these when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience and deep understanding of compliance requirements such as data collection, quality audits, continuous improvement, planning and facilitation, and reporting requirements.
  • Current knowledge of relevant policy and legislation.
  • Highly developed communication skills both verbal and written including the ability to write service plans and reports.
  • Must hold a Full driver licence with no restrictions.
  • Ability to provide evidence of up to date COVID-19 vaccinations.
