About Us
Bellingen Shire is a picturesque and diverse area located on the Mid North Coast of NSW halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and just south of Coffs Harbour. The area is known for its diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and charming towns, cafes and artisan shops.
Bellingen Shire’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and welcoming community make it a unique and attractive destination for both residents and visitors, with its emphasis on sustainability and preserving the environment adding to its appeal.
We are a progressive local government authority employing approximately 150 dedicated employees.
The Opportunity
We seek a person with drive, passion, and experience in Building and environmental health; this is an excellent opportunity to work in a small but highly skilled team, take that next step in your career, and be part of an organisation shaping the future of its community.
Reporting to the Group Leader Development and Compliance, this role is responsible for mentoring and managing a multidisciplinary team to primarily deliver building certification and approval services, environment and Public Health services, and ‘fast track’ development applications for the Shire. The position also works closely with the Group Leader Development and Compliance to ensure good communication, collaboration, and coordination across the broader Development and Compliance Group.
You must have tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying, extensive relevant experience in building certification, and unrestricted registration with NSW Fair Trading as a building surveyor. The candidate should also have extensive experience in delivering Environmental Health services. It is desirable for you to have experience and exposure to development assessment in a Local Government setting.
To succeed in the role, you will need to have experience leading people and be able to communicate with a range of stakeholders effectively. We seek someone driven by a genuine passion for delivering excellent outcomes for our community and with a mindset of continuous improvement.
It is desirable to have exposure to leading development assessment functions and experience in process improvement; however, these skills are not essential. Instead, this role may appeal to a professional looking to take their next step into leadership in Local Government in a highly supportive and experienced team.
