Team Leader Garden Maintenance

We are a local, grassroots organisation that has been an integral part of the Canberra community for decades. This full-time position is to develop, support and supervise individuals with disability in the workplace in the collection of the contents of charity bins in and around Canberra and delivering and sorting the contents at the depot. It includes enabling employees to contribute to personal growth and development towards achievement of their individual goals and aspirations.

About the position

This is a full-time permanent position with a Monday to Friday work schedule in our Commercial Business Branch of Koomarri. The Team Leader Garden Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our Garden Maintenance operation and managing our Garden Maintenance team. The Team Leader is also responsible for facilitating an environment of respect and collaboration, risk management and skills development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The coordination and management of the day-to-day operations of Garden Maintenance teams.
  • Lead a team of Disability Support Professionals in a horticultural setting.
  • Build efficiencies in the business.
  • Build relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining financial sustainability.
  • Deliver all administrative and reporting functions.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and supervising a team of employees (preferably in a garden and grounds maintenance or horticultural setting), including managing performance and providing coaching and feedback.
  • Ability to self-manage, effectively set priorities, monitor program workflows and allocate resources in order to meet operational requirements and deliverables in accordance with contractual arrangements in a professional manner.
  • Ability to perform routine administration and reporting duties, oversee work health and safety aspects of jobs performed and adhere to NDIS Commissioner Practice Standards and all other regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to provide Person-Centered Support to individuals with a disability in their day-to-day employment and future aspirations.
  • Ability to source new, and develop existing business contracts and quoting on jobs to be procured.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing conflict situations and building strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to use software programs such as MS Word, Outlook and Excel.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • ACT Working with Vulnerable People General Registration.
  • Current Light Rigid truck drivers’ license.

Desirable:

  • Cert IV in Disability or Horticulture.
  • Disability work experience.
  • White card.
  • Asbestos awareness training.
  • Silica training.
