The Role

As we continue to strengthen our Claims function, we are establishing a new Technical Claims function to provide in-depth technical expertise. The Technical Claims function will manage complex claims across Income Protection and Long-Term Claims providing deep expertise to some of the most challenging claims.

A key member of this new team is the role Team Manager, Technical Claims, ideally based in Melbourne or Sydney.

In this role your focus will be to lead a team of claims professionals to manage a portfolio of complex claims. These claims require further clarification and/or investigations due to conflicts in claims duration factors, inconsistencies or inaccuracies in evidence requiring an in-depth review and case management process.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Oversight of all active Individual IP claims over 24 months in duration.
  • Develop and implement an effective operating rhythm with the case management teams to identify, take ownership of, and manage the complex claim portfolio.
  • Mange the lifecycle of claims from transition from early claims (0-24 months).
  • Work with team of claims professionals to provide sound technical outcomes in the assessment of complex claims, explaining complex decisions with documented logical and clear rationales.
  • Achieve SLAs through thorough planning and forecasting volumes and demand and identify efficiencies.
  • Coach and mentor the team by role modelling and championing new initiatives that contribute to strategic outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Pricing and Administration functions by sharing insights and information that result in improvements to products, processes and services.

About you

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience as a Life Insurance Specialist with at least 5 years Leadership experience or and/or Experience working in a Legal Practice.
  • Extensive understanding of Life Insurance Industry and of Life Insurance Claims Regulations and Obligations.
  • Demonstrated Technical Claims expertise in Life Insurance understanding relevant policy and legal tests.
  • Qualifications in Life Insurance Cert IV (Claims or Underwriting) (desirable
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment (desirable)
  • Medical Terminology certificate and/or similar medical qualification (desirable)
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant field or Legal qualification.
