We are the market leader in the design and manufacture of high capacity strata support products and systems for underground coal mines, hard rock mines and civil tunnelling projects.

We work closely with mine site engineers, civil tunnelling designers, production personnel, consultants and contractors to design and implement products and systems to suit each project.

About the Role

Due to an exciting period of growth, we are currently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Technical Director to join our team. Reporting to the Managing Director and Owner of the business, this is a key leadership role and is responsible for providing specialist technical advice and support to the business. This role also leads the Engineering/R&D function whilst also working closely with our site-based sales and service teams to ensure that the business delivers on its commitments to customers through industry-leading Engineering expertise, whilst also driving our all-important research and development function.  

The Technical Director is responsible for driving key strategic objectives relating to product development and innovation whilst also maximising our technical capability to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the market. As an industry expert in their own right, the Technical Director will represent Megabolt across mining, civil and allied industries.

Key responsibilities of this important role include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Executive Team to develop strategic objectives and operational plans;
  • Work closely with key customers and strategic partners to ensure the business can respond and adapt to changes in the market, as well as individual customer requirements;
  • Foster a culture of customer focus, performance, collaboration and innovation through continuous improvement built into all facets of the business to ensure customer needs are translated into appropriate solutions and supported by product development and evolution;
  • Oversee all aspects of our Engineering function including product development, raising patents, testing and analysis, research and development with a focus on continuous improvement, innovation and brand/product protection;
  • Facilitate industry-leading research and development through industry experience, excellent judgement and an extremely high level of technical competence. Ensure that testing and compliance systems are in place and constantly reviewed to meet the needs of the business, customers and relevant authorities; and
  • Provide technical guidance and advice internally and externally to those involved in decisions affecting the performance of products, components and systems and look for innovation opportunities to build customer relationships and our reputation within the market. 

About You

The successful candidate will come with at least 15 years’ experience in a senior technical leadership role within an engineering or manufacturing environment. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering or related discipline is also essential. In addition to this, some site-level experience in a mining or tunnelling environment or similar would be an advantage.

A strong customer-focus combined with a level of commercial accumen is a mandatory requirement in this role. A keen sense of curiosity coupled with a strong drive for research, innovation and development based on technical expertise and experience is also a key requirement along with a strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills to test, evaluate and review product performance. 

The successful candidate will also come with well-developed leadership and communication skills to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
