Who are we looking for?
GHD is seeking to grow its Northern Australia, Energy and Resources Business Group through the addition of a Technical Director - Power, ideally to be based in either of Townsville or Gladstone. This role will work with the broader enterprise to service clients and deliver projects in the power sector across the full project lifecycle. These projects are anticipated to have a particular focus on power generation, energy storage, substations, and transmission infrastructure, and contribute to the continued decarbonization of the power system.
This senior technical role leads innovative solutions and delivers high quality projects for our internal, existing, and new clients. Builds and strengthens commercial awareness and takes responsibility for coaching and technically developing the team.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Undertaking design and preparing documentation for power projects.
- Leading and overseeing the work of project teams to achieve project milestones and objectives; includes allocating tasks, ensuring compliance, setting priorities, reprioritizing as required, and coordinating and supervising the daily activities of project teams.
- Contributing to the development of GHD’s knowledge and skills in power engineering including planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and demolition.
- Effectively communicating with stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Leveraging background/contacts to developing business and contributing to winning work.
- Development of tender responses to sell GHD’s services.
What you will bring to the team:
- Formal qualifications in electrical engineering (BEng or equivalent acceptable to Engineers Australia).
- CPEng and RPEQ are desirable.
- 10+ Years’ experience in the engineering design of power projects (e.g. zone substations, underground and overhead reticulation, power generation, energy storage).
- Experience in design management is desirable.
- Experience in the design of high voltage substations and transmission infrastructure between 11 kV and 500 kV.
- Experience with relevant software packages (e.g. CDEGS, PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, Bentley OpenUtilities, PLS-CAD).
- Experience in business development and responding to requests for tender
