Full time, continuing position Support the University’s  teaching activities providing technical support for practical classes at the Charles Perkins CentreBase salary from $95,860 plus 17% superannuation? ?   About the opportunityThe Technical Officer (teaching laboratories) delivers timely and effective technical services within the designated area of responsibility to achieve enhanced education/research support outcomes. This includes provision of hands-on support for practical classes, demonstrations, or research as required, maintenance of equipment and safe working environment, provision of technical advice to users (academic staff/teaching staff/researchers), protocol optimisation (where required), sourcing and preparation of consumables, and assist in the writing of safety and procedural documentation. The Technical Officer will assist in implementing new processes, procedures, systems, and ways of working within the work area to improve customer service delivery, efficiency and resource utilisation as directed. The Technical Officer will provide training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, facilities, and general procedures. The role also supports the Senior Technical Officer in ensuring that the relevant Work, Health and Safety standards and other compliance requirements of the work area are met and are aligned to the University’s WHS policy and relevant legislation.The Technical Officer will provide guidance to junior staff in the work area (e.g. Technical Assistants) to deliver work outputs. Your key responsibilities will be to:support the agreed delivery of technical services?in the designated areasupport the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the responsibility areacontribute to a positive, professional, customer-focused team culturesupport the effective utilisation of resources within the designated area of responsibility, ensuring that the work area’s education/research requirements are effectively metchampion best practices, workplace health and safety, compliance, and risk management seek and act on opportunities to cross-skill, including drawing on the knowledge and expertise of othersprovide project management or project support as required, collaborating with other TSS, PSU or central project managers/teams as requiredAbout you:a degree and relevant experience in at least one of the following: health or vet science, physiology, or human biochemistry; or equivalent qualifications and relevant experiencedemonstrated experience in cell culture, ELISA, molecular biology, histology and/or exercise physiology techniquesdemonstrated experience preparing, streamlining, set up/pack down of higher educational (teaching) laboratory classes as well as experience with safety and compliance training in this workspaceexperience providing first level support and training to students and staff on common laboratory equipment, including assembly of glassware and fume cupboards. Experience in operating/ maintaining common physiology equipment (e.g., spirometer, organ bath) undertake routine maintenance and engaging external parties to repair equipment, as requiredexperience in the care, euthanasia and dissection of rodents, amphibians, and insects as well as appropriate decontamination and infection control procedures; along with an understanding of animal ethicssound working knowledge and experience in implementing of safety regulations (OGTR/PC2) and operating procedures within the laboratory environment, including relevant experience in…
