Salary: $63,725.98 - $97,786.58 pro rata per annum

About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Applied Medical Research. The position holder is responsible for the provision of laboratory services supporting a range of clinical research trials which may include pharmaceutical, public health, biobanking and translational projects that include a clinical laboratory element. The position holder will be required to perform biospecimen processing associated with clinical research projects based within the research and development group in the NSW State Reference Laboratory for HIV. Procedures will include a wide range of preanalytical methods to cryopreserve human biospecimens for research including viable cell fractionation, blood processing, miscellaneous body fluid storage, highly traceable inventory data management, preparation of consignments for transportation of biologically hazardous materials. Analytical procedures may be required involving esoteric biomarkers.

About you:
We are seeking a skilled and energetic Research Assistant who possess a passion for person centred care. We welcome applications from people who can perform all laboratory procedures and in a safe, reliable and efficient manner. To ensure all documentation conforms to internationally recognised standards governed by NATA, NPAAC and TGA, including but not limited to medical testing assay, validation, QA/QC and calibration.

Selection Criteria:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
2. Appropriate tertiary qualification in a scientific or technical field relevant to the practice of pathology
3. Effective communication (written and spoken) including excellent time management and organisational skills, logistics management and effective record keeping, negotiation and interpersonal skills and ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
4. Ability to be flexible and adapt to work practices to suit circumstances
5. Developed desktop publishing, preparation of reports, basic database management and descriptive statistical skills
6. Clinical laboratory or public health research experience preferably in the field of infectious diseases
7. Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) processes relevant to a healthcare setting
