About the role

The Townsville City Council Geotechnical Laboratory maintains 3rd party accreditation with NATA with internationally recognised service to internal customers. The 3rd party accreditation with NATA means that the Geotechnical Laboratory can provide services and advice under the NATA registration to the open market/broader industry.

This position is responsible for completing requested testing and sampling under the supervision of the Geotechnical Laboratory Team Leader and Senior Team Leader. About you

Skills for this role are varied dependent on your qualifications, but the minimum requirement is a willingness to obtain or have completed a Certificate III or higher applicable to construction materials testing. As per the position description, qualifications range from a Certificate III to a Diploma in Civil Engineering plus relevant experience.

You will have knowledge or willing to learn accurate and efficient sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with the requirements for NATA registration. You will also have the ability to learn and demonstrate working knowledge and continual improvement in use of Australian Standards, Queensland Main Roads Standards and all other relevant legislation and guidelines associated with the analysis of construction material.

You will have demonstrated communication and negotiation skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff of all levels as well as a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also have the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team, manage multiple tasks and multiple reporting relationships, and to use initiative to problem-solve and provide advice on matters affecting laboratory operations.

You will have a current user licence for a Moisture Nuclear Density Gauge or the ability to obtain one from Queensland Health. Desirably you will have previous experience in a Local, State or Federal Government engineering unit or Geotechnical Laboratory.
