As a Tenancy Advocate, you will provide tenancy information, advice, and support to help resolve issues and prevent homelessness under the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008. You will enhance tenants' self-advocacy skills and assist with accessing dispute resolution, legal pathways, and appropriate housing services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tenancy information, advice, and advocacy per The Act.
- Assist tenants with Dispute Resolution and Complaints through the Residential Tenancies Authority.
- Guide tenants through Notices, Dispute Resolution, and QCAT.
- Refer and link tenants to government, community, and emergency housing services.
- Comply with program reporting requirements and contribute to program administration.
- Follow policy and procedural guidelines and participate in team and professional development activities.
- Experience in tenant advocacy, housing, homelessness, or related advocacy roles.
- Skilled in working with individuals experiencing complex life issues.
- High-level communication, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Respectful and sensitive approach to vulnerable tenants and stakeholders.
- Understanding of duty of care, privacy, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, with good professional boundaries.
- Proficiency in data management systems and Microsoft applications.
- Diploma, Certificate, or Degree in a related field (desirable).
- Current Positive Notice Police Check or capacity to obtain.
- Current Working With Children Card or capacity to obtain.
- QLD Positive Notice Disability Yellow Card or capacity to obtain.
- Knowledge or ability to attain understanding of the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.
- Proof of Covid vaccination status.
- Previous experience in a not-for-profit organisation.
- Experience in the housing and homelessness sector.
