Territory-Wide Clinical Project Lead, Voluntary Assisted Dying

The ACT Health Directorate (ACTHD) is seeking an enthusiastic individual who can hit the ground running.

The ACT Government introduced legislation in late 2023 to enable eligible people to access Voluntary Assisted Dying in the ACT.

Subject to passage of legislation, the Policy, Partnerships and Programs Division will lead the implementation of Voluntary Assisted Dying within ACTHD, working closely alongside Canberra Health Services (CHS).

Sitting within the new taskforce stood up under the Voluntary Assisted Dying and End of Life Policy Branch, the Territory-Wide Clinical Project Lead, Voluntary Assisted Dying will support the development of a number of key components to the clinical implementation of Voluntary Assisted Dying, including:

• Developing clinical guidance and resources;
• Workforce training and education;
• Supporting CHS in the establishment of a multidisciplinary territory-wide VAD Navigator Service for the ACT. This service will provide advice and support to individuals, their families and carers, healthcare providers and health services (public and private), seeking information and pathways regarding available end of life choices within the ACT; and
• Supporting CHS in the establishment Territory-wide referral and care pathways for Voluntary Assisted Dying.

The position will work very closely and collaboratively with CHS and areas across ACTHD, engage effectively across ACT Government, and build and maintain relationships with representatives from the community health sector.

The Voluntary Assisted Dying and End of Life Policy Branch is a hybrid working team.

This position is available immediately until December 2024, with the possibility of extension.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements: Experience working in palliative care or supporting people at end of life is highly desirable. Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check. Requirements for the HP4: Relevant tertiary qualifications and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience working professionally as a Registered Nurse or as a Health Professional. Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); or be registered or be eligible for membership with the Health Professional’s relevant governing body.

 Note: This is a temporary position available immediately until December 2024 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
