About the Team & the Position
NEM Reform (National Electricity Market Reform) is a multi-year reform program that encompasses implementation of all reform initiatives across Australia’s east coast gas and electricity markets, as well as the delivery of key AEMO foundational and strategic initiatives that deliver an uplift to base capability on which reforms are dependent.
The Test Manager will be accountable and responsible for driving all test activities (as per AEMO Test Practice capabilities) including estimation, resourcing, planning, designing, managing, executing and reporting of tests across the program and projects. The Test Manager will also be responsible for delivery of non-functional testing including but not limited to performance, security, access, backup and recovery, archiving and retention, robustness, availability, capacity, scalability, reliability, performance, stress, volume, maintainability and portability.
Position Responsibilities
- Plan, lead and drive and manage test teams to deliver large and complex testing activities across programs and projects. This includes creation and endorsement of the test strategy, test plans and test reporting.
- Liaise with Reform and Business Owners, where applicable Digital Product Domain Leads for changes to legacy systems, developing test strategies based on available knowledge and managing the team to produce test plans, test program, and test execution, ensuring proper audit standards on records is maintained.
- Lead and manage the QA Test workstream for the Reform Program to ensure all project testing is planned and set up appropriately to ensure effective execution to meet program/project milestone dates.
- Work with Test Leads embedded within programs and projects, to support and enable them to plan and lead strategic, large and complex testing activities (including managing risks and opportunities associated with testing).
- Work closely with Release and Environment managers to ensure that test environments are set up with the required data.
- Drive and lead environment shakeout testing before commencement of SIT, UAT and Market Trial test cycles.
- Coordinate UAT and other non-functional test activities, this includes negotiating testing within the Delivery and Business teams to a mutually acceptable level and balancing the testing needs based on system criticality and risk profile nature of the proposed functional change.
- Organise and run defect triage meetings with all stakeholders involved.
- Ensure tests and results are documented, analysed and reported to stakeholders, and required actions are taken. Highlight issues and risks identified during testing to stakeholders.
- Work with the Reform Readiness and Stakeholder Engagement teams to develop and own the approach to facilitate the portfolio’s Industry Testing and Market Trial Testing across different initiatives.
- Comply with AEMO policies in the area of security and test process standards and ensure all applicable regulatory compliance requirements are fulfilled. Engage with the Cyber Governance team for penetration testing activities.
- Engage with business users when establishing QA success criteria, managing their expectations, and understanding the scope of QA.
- Provide effective reporting to the supervisor to ensure AEMO leadership is informed and aware of relevant key risks, issues and considerations that affect the service delivery, reputation and performance of the Technology division.
Position Requirements
Skills & Experience:
Strong experience in Testing and Quality and min 5 years in a Test leadership role. Experience in facilitating outcomes in leading virtual teams.
- Experience in Test Management of complex IT programs (5MS, DER) within the Utilities industry could be advantageous.
- Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking/problem solving, communication and leadership
- Proven competency in test management and the execution of testing on multiple or large IT projects in fluid and ambiguous environments leveraging system integrators and a multi-source approach.
- Demonstrated understanding of the software development process, including requirement gathering, analysis/design, development tools/technologies, release/version control, contemporary testing methodologies and deployment management
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues at different levels of the organisation and Digital group.
- Successfully developed and embedded fit for purpose capability, processes or process improvements that meet the velocity, adaptability and quality required for the business to meet its objectives.
Education/ professional Certifications:
Tertiary and/or post graduate qualifications in Information Technology, or an equivalent appropriate discipline
