ABOUT THE ROLE

Bandyup Women’s Prison is a maximum-security prison for women in the state, being an Assessment and Program Prison with a small Remand population, as well as providing complex mental health services in the metropolitan area. The prison recognises the unique needs of women in custody, such as their poor health, poor family contact, substance misuses, and histories of abuse, low levels of education and employment and their social dislocation. As a result, Bandyup provides a supportive custodial environment which is responsive to these complex needs.

The Textiles Instructor is primarily responsible for the provision of vocational training to female prisoners who work in the sewing and textiles workshop. The role takes into account the provision of constructive activities, reparation programmes, prison self-sufficiency and work for commercial return.
