Theatre Technician

• HEO 6 Base Salary $99,455 - $107,216 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunityThe Theatre Technician provides technical and operational services for the complex of the (SCM), particularly in areas of Music Theatre and Contemporary Music production. This role will ensure the ongoing operability and maintenance of technical facilities if the building as a musical education and performance facility.Based primarily at Camperdown campus, the role will from time to time be required to work at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Macquarie St campus or other sites as required.Your key responsibilities will be to:

• provide technical services for theatre productions and contemporary music events, including AV and lighting design and operation, installation of set pieces and staging, technical advice and guidance, maintenance of AV and LX equipment and training of SCM concert staff in AV practices
• provide effective leadership and guidance to casual technical staff including assignment and rostering, engagement, feedback, training and support, recruitment and induction
• ensures SCM productions are complaint with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

The position requires flexible working hours with regular evening and weekend work and is responsible for providing a range of logistical and professional support to ensure the smooth and safe running of rehearsals, productions and special events.About you

• demonstrated professional experience working in theatre production including significant experience operating productions (sound and/or lighting)
• demonstrated ability and experience providing AV and audio for theatre, contemporary music and events
• high level technical and operational knowledge of audio and LX production and associated industry standards for theatrical event
• sound working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of the Workplace Health and Safety Policy and Procedures and relevant legislation including university safety standards and guidelines
• demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, with competing priorities and limited supervision
• ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters.
