About the roles:
Grade 1
The Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 1) reports directly to the Perioperative Services Manager within the Theatre Complex. This role provides technical support to the perioperative services within the recognised scope of practice. An Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 1) with less than three months experience (full time equivalent), will work under the direct supervision of a Grade 4 or 5 Theatre Technician. Once three months experience (full time equivalent) is gained, the Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 1) will work under the direct guidance of a Grade 4 or 5 Theatre Technician.
Grade 2
The Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 2) reports directly to the Perioperative Services Manager within the Theatre Complex. The Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 2) works within established guidelines and procedures, and undertakes work of a more complex nature gaining experience rotating through all surgical and clinical specialties under indirect guidance from a Grade 4 or 5 Theatre Technician. They will contribute to the quality activities within the theatres.
Grade 3
The Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 3) reports directly to the Perioperative Services Manager within the Theatre complex. The Operating Theatre Technician will be able to work within all the clinical specialities with a high degree of autonomy and accountability under the direction of the Grade 4 and 5 Theatre Technicians. They will contribute to the organisation and management of the Theatre Technicians and to the quality activities within the theatres. This role provides technical support to the perioperative services within the recognised scope of practice.
Grade 4
The Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 4) reports directly to the Perioperative Services Manager within the Theatre complex. The Operating Theatre Technician will be able to work within all the clinical specialities with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
The Operating Theatre Technician (Grade 4) may perform activities such as training and supervision of junior Theatre Technicians, quality and governance activities, floor coordination and rostering. This role provides technical support to the perioperative services within the recognised scope of practice. In the absence of the Grade 5 Theatre Technician, the Grade 4 may perform additional duties where there is a requirement to act up on a temporary basis and be acknowledged as such.
