Your new company
Our client is a public sector department which aims to maximise the economic potential Queensland's primary industries on a sustainable basis. They are looking to engage a Science Technician (Plant Pathology) who will join the Plant Pathology team to support development and implementation of new HTS-based diagnostic workflows.
Your new role
- Prepare a library and perform HTS on Oxford Nanopore Technologies' MinION sequencing devices.
- Analyse HTS data using appropriate bioinformatics tools, software and platforms;
- Validate and verify diagnostic workflows with the view to accredit to ISO/IEC 17025;
- Maintaining, calibrating and using moderately complex/specialised testing equipment
- Preparing reagents, mixtures and media
- Monitoring and managing the supply of consumable resources
- Cleaning and sterilising work areas, equipment and materials
- Undertaking specialised observations, such as recognising relevant species and identifying environmental conditions
- Preparing, collecting and managing specimens and samples
- Ensuring sample integrity via appropriate specimen/sample preservation, handling and transport
What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Science from a recognised tertiary institution as well as knowledge, skills and experience in high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics.
You will also ideally have the following:
- Experience with Oxford Nanopore Technologies MinION in plant health diagnostics is highly desirable.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools, software and platforms such as Geneious, Galaxy, CLC Genomics workbench, and Command Line Interface (CLI) bioinformatics is highly desirable.
- Experience operating within a Laboratory Quality Management System is highly desirable.
- Experience in Plant Pathology diagnostics will be highly regarded.
