Do you have passion for history and heritage or experience as a Tour Guide? If so, then we want to hear from you!

We are seeking part-time Tour Guides to lead visitors through the World Heritage listed Fremantle Prison. Successful applicants will possess vitality, a genuine interest in others and an ability to inspire and entertain within a highly structured environment. As a Tour Guide, you will be safety conscious, with excellent attention to detail. You will be customer focused and above all, you will create an experience that our visitors will never forget.

Flexibility and the availability to work outside traditional business hours is also required along with an appropriate level of fitness to undertake the work (required to pass a medical assessment for the purpose of Tunnel Tours – if applicable).

You will take part in an extensive training program to enable you to deliver a high standard of interpretation and provide a consistently safe experience for your tour groups and co-workers.

Applicants must be available on Wednesday and/or Friday evenings to conduct Torchlight tours.

This is an open pool recruitment process for permanent part-time, and fixed term part-time opportunities based at Fremantle Prison. Suitable applicants will be placed in a Pool from which appointments may be made for a period of 12 months.

To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate

  • Demonstrate well-developed communication and presentation skills with an ability to adapt to audiences of different characteristics and deliver interpretative information in an unbiased, engaging, educational and entertaining way;
  • Demonstrate an ability to interact with customers in a consistently friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Flexibility to respond to variable work demands and availability to work outside of traditional business hours as required.

Special Requirements for this position

The Department will conduct National Police Clearances for applicants successful to this recruitment process.

Applicants are required to obtain a Working with Children’s Check prior to commencement in the role.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract.
