Job description:
First Quantum Minerals is one of the world's biggest mining companies, employing over 20,000 people.
Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is our flagship operation in Australia. Located on the beautiful south coast of Western Australia, we are just a short commute from the coastal community of Hopetoun. As a major nickel producer and exporter, we aim to ship up to 30,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate each year via Esperance Port.
Purpose
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor the Trades Assistant is responsible for providing the highest quality support and assistance to tradespeople in the repair and maintenance of the plant and at the company owned premises in the local region. Trades Assistants will also be required to undertake various labouring tasks and plant operation to assist the department to complete required maintenance tasks. Tasks will be performed in a safe and timely manner.
The plant is a complex and challenging operation. The circuit and areas are typical of a hydrometallurgical process plant.
The process plant areas consists of:
A Beneficiation circuit, consisting of crushers and grinding mills with associated support systems and process circuits including conveying systems, vibrating screens, centrifugal and P.D pumps, pipework and cyclones, various sized tankage with agitation.
A Leach circuit consisting of High Pressure Acid Leach Trains which include autoclaves and associated support systems, HP vessels, HP centrifugal and P.D. pumps and pipework also an Atmospheric Leach circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation.
A Hydro circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation, pressure and vacuum filters including associated support systems.
A Utilities plant which includes a Sulphuric Acid plant, steam turbines and diesel generators for power generation, desalination plant, and air compressors.
Key Accountabilities
Follow instructions given in order to assist the Tradespeople and Supervisor
Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and the safety of your co-workers
Ensure all tools, plant and equipment assigned to team are kept in good condition, meet required safety standards and are available for use when required
Accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks and projects in accordance with relevant codes, standards, specifications, drawings , guidelines and company procedures
Assist with the planning and organisation of projects, as required
Assist in the proactive identification of repair and maintenance works required
Responsible for stores, maintenance & cleaning as directed
Assist new employees in proper work procedures and practices
Not to engage in any of the prescribed occupations as listed in legislation unless relevant certificates or permits are held
Be a self-starter and be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
Perform any other duties are requested by your supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Construction and maintenance background, with preference given to direct mining experience
Current Western Australian truck drivers' licence. Minimum requirement is a MR licence.
The ability to make informed decisions
A forklift licence is required ideally with some construction plant operating experience
Current EWP, Working at Heights and Confined Space certificates
Dogging and rigging tickets and experience would be looked upon favourably
A positive, self-motivated and conscientious attitude
