Gibbs Civil is a family owned and operated business based out of Gympie QLD. We work local to the Gympie and Sunshine Coast regions. Occasionally we take on regional work, depending on the situation of our employees and other projects.
We have a large collection of running and upcoming projects in the region. We service over 10 residential builders and 15 commercial/industrial builders. All our work is on our own sites, we do not take on minor works subcontracts from larger establishments.

We are looking to fill the roles of multiple descriptions as found below. Any successful applicants will be subject to a three month preliminary period before securing a permanent position. After your trial, personalised work uniforms will be issued and an adjustment of wages.
Trainee - Machine operator and truck driver
A suitable applicant for this position will demonstrate a high level of motivation to want to learn and be a part of this industry. Site experience is preferable but not totally necessary.
Ideally, any applicants for this position will be young by nature with a minimum P2 license (Green P plates) to be eligible to obtain their truck license. Strong mathematic skills are favourable.
Your role will be to support all other team members across work sites. Whether that be driving, operating, hand work or spotting.
Our goal for our successful applicant is to place them in a live training regime that over the course of a few years, will enable you to work independently across a large variety work working situations.
Structed similarly to an apprenticeship, we would expect your development to roughly reflect as shown below:
Year 1 - Learn the basic skills of operating all types of machinery. To work as part of a team and develop the fundamentals of working on site. Obtaining your truck drivers license will be necessary and is something we will facilitate. Wages will be somewhere between $35,000 and $50,000
Year 2 - Progress into more advanced machine operating techniques and learn to work independently in specific scenarios or job sites. After a year of holding MR or HR license you will advance to HC (Heavy combination). By this stage you will be able to interpret construction plans to a basic degree and will still be working under supervision.
Wages will be somewhere between $40,000 and $60,000
Year 3 - At this point you will demonstrate sound basic machinery techniques and be refining your advanced techniques. You will be able to read, interpret and execute jobs from a plan with the support of a team. Dependance on other leadership will still be required. You will be comfortable with all aspects of truck driving with or without a trailer, loading machinery and floating gear from site to site.
Wages will be somewhere between $60,000 and $75,000 and subject to performance bonuses
Year 4 - By this stage you will demonstrate a high competency of all machine operating within a very tight threshold. You will understand the influence of what it is you do on site and how it effects the outcome of the job regarding efficiency. You will be able to analyse construction plans, develop a job structure and execute. Delegating all resources and labour necessary to complete. An understanding of financial impact of your decisions will be present. You will likely be advancing into a higher level of management by this stage
Wages will be in excess of $75,000 per year plus bonus' and benefits
We are looking for applicants who are prepared to commit to our family business long term. This role will not suit someone who leaves at halfway; civil construction/earthworks in NOT an official trade and you will have no documented education history to show to future employees. In saying this, we are aware of the risk for your investment of time and we are prepared to work with you in holding your position within Gibbs Civil. Wages are negotiable for the right applicants.
