In this role, you'll:

  • Learn about the technical and non-technical skills required to work in Operations Control as a Train Signaller across a 12-month traineeship!
  • Be responsible for the control and supervision of train, locomotive and traffic movements, maintaining the safety and efficiency of running our network.
  • Be placed in a fast-paced role that will require you to problem-solve and make quick decisions when issues arise. When they do, its important Signallers can communicate clearly with their team and other contacts to effectively handle any situation.

What does the Training Program involve?

Trainees complete a traineeship with Sydney Trains where you receive a combination of classroom and on-the-job training for up to 30 weeks.

Our on-the-job training will give you exposure to a variety of signal boxes including Penrith, St Marys, Clyde, Campbelltown, Gosford, Wyong, Broadmeadow, Blacktown, Lithgow and the Rail Operation Centre (Alexandria). Please note that the business will endeavour to take your home location into consideration when allocating training locations, however due to training being held at various locations you will need to be flexible and may experience increased travel times during the course of training.

About you

  • You are a problem solver and have the ability to multi-task and work under pressure to make quick and accurate decisions.
  • You have the capability to plan ahead, as well as adapt to changing situations.
  • You are able to attend training for a period of up to 20 weeks across various locations in the Greater Sydney area.
  • You are willing and able to commit to 24 hours a day 7 days a week rotating roster, schedules will include early mornings, late nights, evenings and weekends.
