In this role, you'll:
 

  • Learn about the technical and non-technical skills required to work in Operations Control as a Train Signaller across a 12-month traineeship!
  • Be responsible for the control and supervision of train, locomotive and traffic movements, maintaining the safety and efficiency of running our network.
  • Be placed in a fast-paced role that will require you to problem-solve and make quick decisions when issues arise. When they do, its important Signallers can communicate clearly with their team and other contacts to effectively handle any situation.

What does the Training Program involve?

Trainees complete a traineeship with Sydney Trains where you receive a combination of classroom and on-the-job training for up to 10 weeks.

Our on-the-job training will give you exposure to a variety of signal boxes including Penrith, St Marys, Clyde, Campbelltown, Gosford, Wyong, Broadmeadow, Blacktown, Wollongong, Lithgow and the Rail Operation Centre (Alexandria). After you complete and are found competent in your Initial Employment training you will be placed at Lithgow for on the job localised training.

Please note that this job advertisement is for appointments at Lithgow ONLY. Successful candidates will have Sydney accommodation costs for 10 weeks of the training program covered by Sydney Trains to then be placed at Lithgow Signal Box following training.

About you

  • You are a problem solver and have the ability to multi-task and work under pressure to make quick and accurate decisions.
  • You have the capability to plan ahead, as well as adapt to changing situations.
  • You are able to attend training for a period of up to 20 weeks across various locations in the Greater Sydney area.
  • You are willing and able to commit to 24 hours a day 7 days a week rotating roster, schedules will include early mornings, late nights, evenings and weekends.
