Our work focuses on the creation, development, and delivery of responses in the areas of Living, Learning & Earning, Housing & Homelessness and Youth Justice. Each year, we connect with 30,000 vulnerable young people across Australia.
Hand Brake Turn is a 5-week pre-accredited automotive work skills training program providing opportunities for young people coming out of youth justice or disengaged with their school or community to gain a renewed sense of purpose. Since its establishment in 1994, the program has seen more than 10,000 young people complete the course, building life skills, confidence, and job readiness.

About the role
This permanent position is based in our Sunshine West location with a large automotive workshop and office space. The Hand Brake Turn Trainer will be reporting to the General Manager of Service Delivery as part of the wider Hand Brake Turn team.
By agreement with Concern Australia, 0.8 or 1.0 FTE (Monday-Thursday or Monday-Friday work week) is available for the successful candidate, to suit varied life commitments.
What you will need to succeed
- Qualifications in Automotive/Education.
- Desirable: Youth/Social Work Qualifications and TAE40116.
- Experience relating to young people in a structured training environment, providing mentoring and opportunities for skill development with a strengths-based approach.
- Ability to related to young people who may come from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Intermediate computer skills, including the frequent use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and database entry.
- Sound presentation skills, including an ability to facilitate group discussions and activities with demonstrated experience in working with young people.
