More than a job
This is an opportunity to have an impact on the nursing team through assisting in the delivery of training, educating and mentoring of nursing and graduate nursing staff at our North Melbourne hospital and Campbellfield clinic. 
  
About the role
You’ll be responsible for supporting in the delivery of nursing education in line with strategic plans and frameworks formulated by the Training & Development Co-ordinator, in conjunction with hospital management. You’ll provide important support to nurses to enable them to achieve clinical and mandatory competency requirements through your delivery of ongoing nursing education.
  
Responsibilities:
  • Support the Training and Development Co-ordinator to deliver quality training and education across both North Melbourne and Campbellfield Hospitals, in order to maintain high standards of nursing care
  • Develop department policies, procedures and protocols
  • Assist with the onboarding of new nurses
  • Delivery nursing education to individuals and groups that promote safe, knowledge-based veterinary nursing care
  • Professionally assess and evaluate competencies within the nursing cohort and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures
  • Maintain a database of competency assessments
  • Promote a positive and safe learning environment and culture for the nursing cohort
  • Provide feedback to Training & Development Co-ordinator regarding any training issues or concerns
  • Work with other departments to ensure the hospital delivers and is recognised for 'best-practice' systems and processes and identify and rectify system or operational issues in delivering service and care
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and current practices in clinical and nursing education
  • Act as a role model for staff, communicating clinical and professional expectations and holds staff accountable for meeting these expectations.
  • Provide clear, accurate and comprehensive documentation in relation to training and education matters.
About You
You’re a qualified and experienced vet nurse who is looking to utilise your experience to help grow the skill set and knowledge of other vet nurses. You are curious, with a drive for continual learning. You’re calm, efficient and professional, and thrive when the going gets busy. You are a strong and positive communicator, and able to promote and foster a collaborative team culture that supports the learning environment throughout the hospital.  You’re accountable for your behaviour and role model expectations through your actions.
  
You will also have:
  • A minimum of 4 years clinical veterinary experience
  • Demonstrated advanced veterinary nursing knowledge
  • Experience providing nursing care across different departments within a hospital or clinic setting
  • Involvement in nursing complex intensive care cases
  • Practiced providing training to nurses in clinical competencies
  • Experience in providing feedback regarding nursing practices and policies
  • Understanding of animal handling using Fear Free principles
  • Experience using different Microsoft programs and other IT systems
  • Strong time management skills - able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
