Transaction Manager - Private Equity

Your new team

AustralianSuper's PE strategy is to be a trusted capital partner alongside our strategic partners (PE GP's) across fund commitments, co-investments and co-underwrites. The Private Equity team have a global operating model with presence in Australia and New York originating and managing a portfolio of over A$14bn.

Your new role

The main purpose of this role is to work with the Private Equity team and the wider Investments Department in managing the execution of co-investment and co-underwrite investments and fund investments in line AustralianSuper's processes.

The role will also work with the Private Equity team in other aspects supporting investment monitoring activities (including monitoring of the deal pipeline, funds, co-investments and the total Private Equity portfolio), and improving internal systems and processes.

This role requires knowledge and experience in managing large scale Private Equity transactions, internal stakeholder management and experience and familiarity with the Private Equity team's broader investment activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Supports the Private Equity transaction teams in undertaking the direct transaction process for co-investments and co-underwrites, including managing the execution of the agreed steps and deliverables.
• Acts as the administrative liaison between the Private Equity team and other internal workstreams (e.g., legal, tax, ESG, ODD, stakeholder management and Investment Operations) during the timeline of each transaction.
• Tracks transactions against internal requirements and reports any unforeseen issues arising.
• Tracks transactions from origination through to execution and monitoring phase, including maintenance of active deal pipeline.
• Responsible for administering the internal processes on live opportunities with a focus on process management and stakeholder management. This includes:
  • organising meetings, including liaison with Secretariat for approval forum meetings
  • updating deal folders (including data room uploads)
  • assisting preparation of governance forum meeting minutes
• Streamline transaction workflows, including the use of new IT applications.
• Builds relationships across the Investment Department and other Fund functions to support efficient investment processes and seeks opportunities for cross-Fund learnings.

• Tertiary qualifications.
• 8 - 10 years or more experience, including several years in an investment management or investment banking environment.
• Strong knowledge of and experience in direct Private Equity transaction execution
• Knowledge of Private Equity funds, co-investments and co-underwrite investment activities
• Extensive experience working collaboratively with teams across the Investment Department.
• Extensive experience in dealing with key external partners (including PE GP's, investment banks, lawyers, accountants, consultants / advisors).
• Ability to develop a coherent framework for direct transaction execution and overall investment processes.
• Experience in analysing and interpreting data.
• Compliance / regulatory awareness and familiarity.
• Experience in presenting findings to senior management or clients.
