Job description

Located on Warlpiri land in the Tanami Desert, a vibrant bilingual school is currently seeking a Transition to Year 3 Teacher. Located four hours from Alice Springs, this school is well supported by the local community and has high student engagement. The bilingual program emphasises Two-Way learning, covering both the Australian Curriculum and the Warlpiri theme cycle. Utilising trauma-informed practices and striving towards the Berry Street Educational Model and Restorative Practices, the school offers programs such as RWI, Learning Through Doing Mathematics, and Social Emotional Learning. The school has approximately 30 students attending daily with usually 12 students attending each class.
 
With strong partnerships with local organisations such as PAW media, Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary Rangers, Bachelor Learning Institute, and World Vision, the school actively promotes On-Country learning and community involvement, integrating cultural elements into its curriculum. The community has outback stores, health clinic, learning centre, Employment and Community Development Centre and council offices.
 
Responsibilities include,

  • Planning, preparing and explicitly delivering quality and effective teaching and learning programs, which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
  • Supporting students through interaction in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.
  • Providing for the physical, social, cultural and emotional well-being and safety of students whilst at school.
  • Regularly assessing students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
  • Maintaining student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationships between the school, parents and community.
Position is full-time for the remainder of 2024, with a possibility of extending. Shorter term placements will be considered.

  • Wages between $81,739 - $117,225 (plus super)
  • Annual remote allowances of $8,239, paid pro-rata fortnightly with salary. $10,047 with dependents.

What You Need to Succeed!
Registered (or ability to) with TRBNT and a NT Working With Children check (ochre card) in addition to,
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent.
  • Ability to collaboratively plan, prepare and deliver teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; which are consistent with relevant curriculum policies, work programs and education trends.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of learning technology and assessment.
  • Regularly assess students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
  • Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively with students, staff and families through appropriate interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to establishing and maintaining a supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with school staff, parents and members of the local school community in order to establish and develop productive partnerships, in an intercultural environment
  • Commitment to maintain current and relevant professional learning and meet Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.

  • Early Year qualification
Candidates must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa with permission to work.
