Operations Manager - Ettamogah Rail Hub.

Statement of Function
To drive articulated vehicles to undertake Regional Connect works as directed and contribute to the manual labor pool within the Ettamogah Rail Hub (ERH) and Regional Connect business groups.
Position Objective
Regional Connect primarily operates road transport Heavy Vehicles as a reliable service for clients. The business will be focused on transporting general freight to the ERH near Albury NSW, to regional locations around Southern New South Wales and Victoria.
Regional Connect requires all staff to have a determination to ensure our people work as a close-knit group focussed on achieving our commitment to the client with a minimum of fuss and the highest quality service.
Our group of operations staff will need to function as a team driven by a vision of achievement, fulfillment, and enjoyment in what they are employed to do.
A prime accountability of all staff is to ensure that a positive safety culture exists that is respectful of others and inclusive.
Specific Responsibilities
- Ensures trucks are operated effectively and efficiently to achieve Regional Connect goals and objectives,
- Ensures trucks are maintained on a daily basis following manufacturer’s specifications,
- Ensures plant is operated and loaded in a safe manner following safe work method statements and manufacturer’s instructions,
- Ensures truck is correctly and securely loaded to weight and safety limits and driven according to road regulations,
- Ensure compliance with all safety, fatigue, Heavy vehicle operating guidelines, and company procedures.
Duties
- Drive and operate heavy combination vehicles to load, carry, and unload materials, liquids, and equipment,
- Maintain worksite/workplace tidiness and cleanliness,
- Support other plant operators by directing the movement of plant and loads and communicating work site conditions and information,
- Use and maintain tools and equipment effectively to complete tasks efficiently,
- Attend to repairs, maintenance, and cleaning of ERH assets as directed.
- Undertake laboring duties as directed,
- Respond to emergency situations as requested,
- Complete required workplace records,
- Operate other mobile plants and trucks as directed and to the level of training and licensing achieved,
- Undertake training to update, maintain, and advance personal skill levels and be in compliance with relevant workplace legislation,
- Respond to inquiries from customers and provide information within the scope of responsibility.
Occupational Safety and Health (OH&S) Responsibilities
- Comply with all Statutory requirements,
- Take reasonable care to ensure their safety and health whilst at work and that of others,
- Consult and cooperate with Management on matters of Occupational Safety and Health,
- Report all hazards, accidents, incidents, and near misses according to the Regional Connect's reporting process,
- Develop and follow all safe work procedures as directed by the supervisor or as otherwise directed,
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Organisational Responsibilities
- Ensure all duties are performed in compliance with the procedures documented in the Regional Connect's Safety Management System (SMS) and other more current internal guideline documents,
- Actively seek and report on methods of improving systems of work to ensure continuous improvement,
- Respond to organisational initiatives and assist in the development of safety practices,
- Participate in safety toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings,
- Comply with the policies and procedures of the organisation at all times,
- Properly organise and manage working time to ensure efficient productivity,
- Perform other duties as directed that fall within the scope of the position or the incumbent’s knowledge and skills base,
- Represent Regional Connect responsibly and professionally at all times,
- Report and sign on for early starts for a minimum of 10-hour shifts.
Essential Criteria
- Ability to pass an HV Health Assessment for Commercial Vehicle Driver,
- Current Heavy Combination (HC class) and or multi-combination (MC class license).– RMS Print Out Required,
- Hold Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) accreditation,
- Knowledge and understanding of the applicable Heavy Vehicle National Laws and Regulations,
- Proven ability and experience driving 25-38 tonne trailer articulated vehicles,
- Basic Literacy and Numeracy skills to follow written communication and complete standard forms,
- Experience in general laboring duties and small plant operations,
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills,
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment,
- Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Residence,
- Must pass a National Police Check in Australia.
Desirable Criteria
- High-Risk Work Licences such as White Card, Forklift, or Reach Stacker licenses,
- Experienced in driving heavy bulk vehicles and other heavy machinery,
- Ability to work autonomously using a proactive approach to task resolution.
