Job description

ABOUT US

Camberwell Grammar School is an independent Anglican day school for boys from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12. We aim to give every student in our care the very best education in order to prepare them for life beyond school. We are a learning community that encourages staff, students, past students, and parents to involve themselves fully in all aspects of school life and to identify themselves with its values; Learning, Respect, Integrity, Courage and Optimism. We are proud of the sense of community that characterises our school.

Our school campus is located in the leafy inner east suburb of Canterbury, on land originally inhabited by the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, and blends period architecture with exciting contemporary design and state-of-the-art facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

After successfully outsourcing turf management for some years, we feel we are now in a position to develop in-house capacity.

As such, the opportunity exists for a turf expert to maintain the condition and presentation of our grass areas and sporting facilities.  Our single campus school is fortunate to have first class sporting facilities including ovals and synthetic surfaces, a turf centre wicket and green open spaces.

Reporting to the Property Manager, you will provide expert advice and ensure the highest standards of turf management are maintained.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the year-round health, quality and appearance of the turf oval and wicket and natural grass surfaces
  • Implementing regular maintenance schedules including mowing, watering, fertilisation and pest control
  • Monitoring and managing soil conditions, aeration, drainage and irrigation systems to optimise turf health
  • Developing and implementing sustainable turf management practices to minimise environmental impact
  • Seasonable programming and preparation of our facilities in line with the school’s busy sporting calendar

ABOUT YOU

You will have a strong turf management background and be passionate about ensuring first class presentation of sporting grounds and facilities.  You have excellent knowledge of plants, including pests and diseases and of Council and Government requirements.  You have strong communication skills and are comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels and are known for your organisational and time management skills.

You must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of OH&S and have a genuine interest in turf management.

Of utmost importance is your ability to understand a school environment and culture, which can be quite different from other environments.

You must have flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as some weekend work will be required.

Relevant qualifications in turf management would be well considered, along with a current White Card and Chemical Certificate.

You will be required to have a Working with Children’s check and also undergo a National Crime Check.
