Job description

Umpire Observer

About the Role

WA Cricket's Cricket Operations Unit is searching for expressions of interest for Premier Cricket Umpire Observers for the 2024-25 Premier Cricket Season.

Premier Cricket Umpire Observers will play an important part in the development and training of Umpires in WA Premier Cricket for the 2024-25 season. Umpire Observers will be tasked with providing an independent observation of the umpires that they view, to ensure that the panel that ranks and appoints umpires to WA Premier Cricket have strong, validated independent information to make accurate assessments of Umpires.

For the 2024-25 Premier Cricket Season, the Cricket Operations Unit is seeking a panel of 8 to 10 Umpire Observers. Umpire Observers do not need to be former umpires, however, a strong understanding of role of the umpire within cricket is essential. The observers will be expected to provide this information regularly throughout the season.

Once selected onto the Umpires Observers Panel, observers will be provided with training by WA Cricket on how to independently observe and assess umpire performance. From there, observers may be called to meet occasionally throughout the season as required.

Payment

The Umpire Observers position comes with an honorarium of $500, if a minimum target of observations is reached, plus a payment of $100 for each observation completed. (minimum 2 hours observation).

To qualify for the honorarium the Umpire Observer must also attend all meetings scheduled by WA Cricket staff as requested.

How to Apply

Please submit an expression of interest of no greater than 1 page, which should include your availability throughout the 2023/25 season, prior to close of business, Friday 5 July 2024.

EOI’s will be assessed, and successful observers will be notified after that date. Reapplying Observers do not need to submit an EOI, just to confirm by writing that they wish to continue as an Observer.

If you have any further questions, please contact Luke Douglas Competitions & Operations Manager (************@wacricket.com.au) or John Sherry, High Performance Umpire Coordinator (***********@wacricket.com.au).

The Premier Cricket Umpire Observers Terms of Reference can be sent out to interested individuals upon request.
