Underwriter - Corporate (Underwritten Workers' Compensation)

We have seen growth in our portfolio and this is a great time to be able to demonstrate your skills and experience whilst learning the various aspect of Risk State underwriting. You will be managing your own client portfolio which will involve collaborating with various stakeholders, assessing and analysing client profiles, setting premiums as per designated authority level, managing daily client needs, building relationships with customers, and contributing to the branch targets.
This role provides an opportunity to gain and hone your skills and knowledge in Workers’ Compensation insurance. Our team handles the underwritten jurisdiction which includes WA, ACT, TA and NT. This provides a unique opportunity to learn various jurisdictional legislation and application of relevant guidelines. The knowledge and experience you can gain in this role can be used as leverage in terms of career progression.
It will be your responsibility to:
Assess and underwrite policies across all size band and programs. Ensuring the application of appropriate business activity classifications and sound technical pricing within the risk appetite of the business.
Effectively manage workflows (new business, renewals, arrears etc.) to ensure delivery of quality underwriting and service.
Ensure underwritten policies meet all compliance and portfolio requirements.
Manage relationships across a designated portfolio, with a focus on underwriting as per delegated authority limits.
Anticipate and provide solutions to customers’ needs from available information to design sustainable responses to suit their circumstances.
Ensure business offering is aligned with divisional objectives and portfolio balance (growth and profit).
Identify profitable new business opportunities and maximise conversion rate in line with business expectations and risk appetite.
Maximise retention of preferred accounts and ensure timely review of renewal business in conjunction with internal stakeholders via strategy meetings.
Keep abreast of market condition and trends, provide feedback to stakeholders and take action to capitalise on business opportunities.
Important to your success:
Experience in an underwriting role in a Workers Compensation or general insurance environment.
Experience to one or all of the underwritten states (WA, NT, ACT, TAS) would be highly desired for this role.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact and influence whilst building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
Ability to plan and prioritise effectively, organise tasks and manage competing resources and demands.
Demonstrates enthusiasm and ability to optimise business value to customers by delivering high quality services and positive customer experiences to sustain and enhance the customer base.
Proven analytical and critical thinking capability to interpret a range of data, identify patterns, trends and links that inform judgements and solutions.
Pays high attention to detail by completing tasks with thoroughness and accuracy and has the ability to quickly identify errors or inconsistencies within information.
