About the Role:
Biodiversity Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest for an experienced Unit Business Manager to manage project delivery and on-ground works in vegetation management within the Surat Basin. The role includes project management, team coordination, scheduling and client liaison. The project involves some heavy machinery and working in remote locations. The applicant must be well experienced in lineal infrastructure maintenance and it is beneficial to be experienced in the Gas/Mining/Large scale construction industry.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Supervise, manage and mentor the staff across a broad range of related projects, continually enhance the Unit's team culture
- Promote, educate and ensure that internal standards are met within their team
- Ensure that projects are coordinated in a timely and financially-appropriate manner to both internal and external client expectation
- Assist in organising internal and external training of their unit to ensure that projects are run correctly, client expectations are met and the work is of a technically high standard
- Manage the unit roster to ensure that all Administration duties are completed, including (but not limited to) meetings for Operations, Finance, OHS and Human Resources, reporting to the Senior Management Team
- Plan resource requests in consultation with relevant Unit Business Manager in advance of requirement
- Develop new business opportunities and continually develop the business unit’s capability
- Develop, maintain and enhance client relationships
- Work from the Surat Basin office and work within a FIFO/DIDO roster
- Provide Biodiversity Australia with an understanding of government legislation, particularly relating to the business unit
- Compile, edit and review scientific documents for clients and legislation driven applications, permits and reporting
- Assist in developing proposals and tenders to the Biodiversity Australia standard (where required)
- Confidently represent Biodiversity Australia in a variety of public forums and marketing opportunities, including media, conferences and community event
Qualifications and Experience
The Unit Business Manager will be required to perform several functions within the company. The position should be staffed by a Team Member with the following qualifications and experience:
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in an area relevant to the business unit
- Experience or qualifications in project management
- Experience or qualifications in coordinating staff (rostering / performance etc.)
- Gas, Mining or Construction experience is essential
- High level of safety systems experience
Skills and Requirements
The required skills of the Unit Business Manager include:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to utilise a variety of computer programs and IT applications
- Proficient in field-based scientific survey and data collection
- Proficient in office-based research, data compilation and reporting
- Knowledge of relevant legislation related to the Unit
- Strong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capability
- Strong safety culture
