Job description

The National Academy of Professional Studies (NAPS) is currently looking to recruit passionate, experienced, and qualified Higher Education Lecturers to join our academic team, delivering face-to-face units in the Bachelor of Social Work. This is an exciting opportunity for part-time and full-time lecturers to join NAPS' growing Academic Team in the Sydney CBD. As a Lecturer in NAPS, you will be expected to engage in undergraduate teaching of the Bachelor of Social Work program and contribute to the suite of units delivered in person and online. Ideally, you will have the ability to teach across a broad range of subjects in the program. 

Key Criteria and Qualifications
  • A PhD in Social Work or an MA qualification in Social Work, or equivalent postgraduate research qualification.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • A current Working with Children clearance.
  • High level oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated evidence of academic leadership.
  • Experience in delivering teaching in on-line and face to face learning environments to provide students with a range of successful learning strategies and knowledge/skills acquisition outcomes.
  • Relevant Social Work practice experience, with a pedagogical approach to embed theory to practice in teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate units in one or more of the following areas: direct Social Work practice skills; the legal and organisational context of Social Work practice; social policy, socio-cultural context of Social Work practice; community development; disability; child and family support; Social Work theories; ethical practice.
  • A track record of publications evidencing scholarship. 
  • Experience in supervising Fieldwork and/or Honours research students.
  • An ability to develop effective strategies to achieve high quality teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development. 
  • Effective communication skills to a wide range of people and the ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. 
  • Effective organisational, time management and administrative skills.
  • Adaptability and a desire to develop new skills to meet the needs of the curriculum.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in Further Education. 
  • Knowledge of SharePoint
  • Knowledge of Office Products and /or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Membership of the AASW
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate or convene the Bachelor of Social Work program under the direction of the Dean/Vice President 
  • Keep up to date with the discipline and subject areas in which they teach, including recent trends in teaching of the discipline; 
  • Prepare and teach units at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with guidance from more senior academic staff if required; 
  • Develop, maintain and revise course, tutorial and lecture materials; 
  • Meet or exceed regulatory requirements including the professional body or registration requirements; 
  • Prepare marking guidelines, coordinate marking meetings and assist with the finalisation of subject results; 
  • Provide students with sufficient opportunity for consultation; 
  • Participate in functions promoting the Academy such as Open Days, graduation ceremonies, seminars and lectures for future students; 
  • Conduct lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops and student field excursions; 
  • Supervise research projects; 
  • Conduct research, either discipline-based scholarship and/or scholarship of teaching and learning; 
  • Engage in professional activity and/or industry and business; 
  • Undertake administrative functions at course level and (with supervision for a more senior academic if necessary) at program level; 
  • Keep up to date with the National Higher Education Standards and CRICOS regulations;
  • Attend departmental and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a number of committees; 
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Sexual Harassment Legislation standards and Workplace Safety regulation; and 
  • other activities as required by a supervisor.
