The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to fill various Director (EL2) roles across the Data Sourcing Division.Depending on the role, the successful applicants can work out of our offices in Belconnen (Canberra), Geelong, Docklands (Melbourne), Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.About the areas and rolesThe ABS’ Data Sourcing Division is responsible for sourcing the data needed to produce independent and reliable information on a wide range of social, environmental and economic matters. We aim to provide a seamless, digital first approach to data provision which meets the needs and expectations of our individual, household, business and government providers.As a Director in the Data Sourcing Division, you will:
  • Provide professional and strategic leadership in the delivery of business outcomes.
  • Lead and develop high performing teams in a changing environment ensuring staff are motivated, productive and engaged.
  • Manage competing priorities and deliverables across projects or a collection of business as usual activities, with a focus on efficiency, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively, build relationships and negotiate with influence with a diverse range of stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
  • Work as part of the senior leadership team to evolve the future culture of the Data Sourcing Division and the broader ABS.
Director Senior Design LeadAs a Senior Design Lead, you will lead the development of Data Sourcing solutions which position the ABS for the future and align with the organisation’s strategy and vision.As part of your leadership oversight, you will assume design responsibility for complex Data Sourcing projects that have strategic or operational significance. You will collaborate with stakeholders, leading and participating in conversations across the ABS to ensure we establish contemporary solutions that meet business outcomes. You will drive and influence the right solution and constructively challenge when necessary.You will lead a team of 30 staff including business analysts and developers who work closely with stakeholders to translate client needs into data, process and system requirements and deliver viable solutions that achieve business outcomes. You will have a strong focus on developing design capability across the Data Sourcing Division.This role may be offered in the Geelong, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane or Hobart locations.Director Data Supply AgreementsAs the Director of Data Supply Agreements, you will utilise your experience with program management methods, together with your well-developed communication and negotiation skills, to deliver data supply agreements for the ABS.You will work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders across Government and the private sector. You will lead and participate in conversations to ensure we establish and maintain data supply from other organisations to the ABS, that is essential to the provision of quality statistics and timely data insights.You will have an understanding or be able to quickly acquire an understanding of the data landscape and be able to pivot quickly to new opportunities.You will lead a small, newly formed team who establish data supply agreements and you will build organisational capability in Data Sourcing strategies.This role may be offered in the Geelong, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Hobart or Adelaide locations.Director Client Engagement and Despatch UnitAs Director of the Client Engagement and Dispatch Unit, you will lead the ABS’ primary contact centre, responsible for all telephone contact with the ABS’ survey respondents. You will lead a team of 210 staff, responsible for making 750,000 telephone contacts annually.You will have excellent leadership, communication and project management skills. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure delivery of business outcomes and have a strong focus on process improvement. You will thrive in a fast-paced operational environment. You will have a strong focus on developing capability in the teams you lead.Experience in managing contact centres will be an advantage.This role may be offered in the Geelong or Melbourne locations.Director Household Survey OperationsAs Director of Household Survey Operations, you will lead the ABS’ survey field operations. You will lead a team of 400 Field Interviewers located across Australia, and 80 office staff. You will be responsible for all in-field data collection for the ABS’ survey program, including the Monthly Population Survey.You will have excellent leadership, communication and project management skills. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure delivery of business outcomes and have a strong focus on process improvement. You will thrive in a fast-paced operational environment. You will have a strong focus on developing capability in the teams you lead.This role may be offered in the Geelong or Melbourne locations.Director Data Sourcing Futures Program Management Office (PMO)As Director of the Data Sourcing Futures PMO, you will be responsible for the program management aspects for the Data Sourcing Futures Branch. This includes program office management for a large Data Sourcing change program. You will manage the coordination and secretariat for multiple governance forums; monitoring of program benefits and risks; and creating key supporting program artefacts including monthly status reports. You will lead a small, focussed team to achieve these outcomes and also provide support to other sections in the Futures Branch as required.You will have excellent collaboration, communication and project/program management skills. You will be required to work collaboratively and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, from statistical business partners through to ABS Senior Executive. You will have a strong focus on developing project/program management capability across the Futures Branch.This role may be offered in any of the locations listed.Director Data Sourcing Futures Workforce and Workflow ProjectAs Director of the Data Sourcing Futures Workforce and Workflow Project, you will work within a wider change program to develop the future state workforce and associated processes for the ABS’ Data Sourcing function. You will lead a small, dynamic team who are future focussed. The role has a strong collaboration element with the other change program project teams and the broader Data Sourcing Division.You will have excellent collaboration, communication, planning and project management skills. You will work closely with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of project outcomes. You will have a strong focus on process improvement and developing capability in the teams you lead.This role may be offered in any of the locations listed.Director Data Sourcing Futures Advanced Contact Centre ProjectAs Director of the Data Sourcing Futures Advanced Contact Centre Project, you will work within a wider change program to develop the future state working processes and technology requirements for the ABS’ Data Sourcing survey respondent contact centre. You will lead a small, dynamic team who are future focussed. The role has a strong collaboration element with the ABS’ ICT Division, other change program project teams and the broader Data Sourcing Division.You will have excellent collaboration, communication, planning and project management skills. You will work closely with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of project outcomes.
