The types of positions on offer are as follows:

  • District Psychology - Metropolitan and Regional
Some Child Protection Psychology Services team members work in Districts throughout Western Australia. In this capacity, they work in District Offices as part of a multidisciplinary team as consultants and clinicians. They play an essential and highly valued role responding to the developmental and mental health effects of early life trauma on infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Residential Care Psychology– Metropolitan and Regional
Some Child Protection Psychology Services team members work across two or more of the Department’s 14 metropolitan and 12 regional Group Homes as consultants and clinicians. In this capacity they work within the Group Homes supporting care workers to reflect and attune to the minds and mental states of the young people. Additionally, they contribute to the provision of a therapeutic milieu, and a culturally sensitive, homelike environment, for youth residing in the Group Homes who have experienced significant maltreatment, neglect, and disrupted attachment.

  • Residential Care - various metropolitan locations.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 6 months across the Department of Communities.
Specified Calling Level 1 appointments will be supported with their supervised practice to General Registration as a Psychologist. Level 1 appointments will be for a fixed term basis only. Permanency to these roles will only be considered upon achieving General Registration as a Psychologist.
Specified Calling Level 2 appointments eligible to commence progress toward endorsement will be supported with their supervised practice to endorsement as Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychologists and may be appointed permanently.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Psychologist (Provisional) Specified Calling Level 1: Psychologist (Provisional) Specified Calling Level 1: Tertiary degree qualification in Psychology or equivalent approved by the Psychology Board of Australia, eligible for 'Provisional Registration' on the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) register of Psychologists and eligible for one of the following:
  • To commence or continue an approved Psychology Board of Australia internship pathway to achieve general registration or;
  • To work in addition to University placements, in compliance with the Psychology Board of Australia policy, whilst completing the higher degree pathway to achieve general registration, i.e., completing an accredited postgraduate degree of two or more years duration (two-year Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree).
Psychologist Specified Calling Level 2: Eligible for 'General Registration' as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) OR currently enrolled in a Clinical Masters higher degree pathway and eligible to work in addition to placements.
Psychologist Specified Calling Level 3: A 2-year post graduate Masters degree in Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychology or approved equivalent, General Registration as a Psychologist AND specialist endorsement with AHPRA.
