Job description

(HEO7) $95,017 to $106,270 plus an annual employer contribution of 17% superannuation.
SA Veterinary Registration and Radiation License paid by the employer and consideration will be given for assistance with relocation +/- visa requirements for overseas applicants
The University's School of Animal & Veterinary Science is seeking to employ a Veterinarian Clinician in the Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) to provide General Practice services and to provide clinical mentoring and guidance to final year veterinary and veterinary technology students.
Whilst this position is aimed at more experienced clinicians, consideration will also be given, at an appropriate level, to new or recent graduates. Any such recent graduates will be provided with a comprehensive training program to help them build into the role.
This position will provide an opportunity to work in a friendly closely-knit team of experienced GP clinicians, supported by specialists and a dedicated team of nursing and support staff. The ECC team provides 24/7 emergency and critical care services for a varied and dynamic caseload of small animal patients and works closely with our general practice veterinarians in delivering a complete service to the local pet-owning community. We maintain an extensive network of referring practices and provide them with both an after-hours service and also hospital monitoring for their critical cases. At the same time, we provide a high-quality primary opinion service in general practice. The role we have on offer in GP will collaborate closely with ECC in developing the overall profile of the CAHC.
As part of the role, you will be a clinical mentor to students, and your high standard of clinical and professional behaviour will provide a valuable professional role model for them. Working with their enthusiasm to get involved with case management, you will help to educate the new generation of veterinarians.
As you would expect from a Veterinary Surgeons Board accredited hospital, our facilities and equipment are of the highest standard, with on-site ultrasound, X-ray and CT imaging and the support of a dedicated radiographer. Our hospital is supported by the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, which is located within the same building. This is often invaluable for fast turnaround of clinical pathology reports and direct contact with pathologists for case discussion.
CAHC forms a part of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and provides a great environment in which to study for your own ANZCVS membership or similar. Further study and continuing professional development activities are encouraged and supported with time off and up to $3,000 per annum available to spend on your choice of CPD. Other benefits include free full access to international journals through the University Library plus VIN membership.
CAHC is located on the University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Campus, and is surrounded by great lifestyle opportunities. We are situated on the doorstep of the Barossa Valley, an internationally renowned wine region and a delightful part of the world. We have easy access to beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools and shopping facilities. There is easy access to the city and its many attractions. Adelaide is known as a cultural centre, with its hugely successful Festival of the Arts, and as a sports-mad destination.
To be successful you will need:

  • Qualification in Veterinary Science acceptable for Veterinarian registration in South Australia.
  • Demonstrated veterinary experience in first opinion general practice but recent graduates will be considered.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and team members.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others.
  • Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence.
