The Role
Are you looking for a veterinary practice on the Northside of Canberra that gives you that rare balance of interesting cases and gold-standard care, without the hectic schedule of a large clinic? Kaleen Veterinary Hospital is part of a wonderful local community and we are looking to hire an experienced nurse. The ideal candidate would be certificate IV qualified and have at least 1 year of experience. For the right candidate, we are willing to create a full-time role.
The ideal candidate will be able to work 1-2 days a week, with your day including a mix of nursing and reception work, and a 4 hour Saturday once every 3-4 weeks. We are closed on Sundays and all public holidays.
We place a large amount of trust in our nurses here at Kaleen, and as such we want you to be confident at performing a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Placing catheters
- Taking bloods
- Anaesthesia
- Assisting with dentistry and radiology
- Hospitalised patient care
- Nurse consults
About Us
Kaleen Vet is a small clinic with big dreams! We have just renovated our premises and have been steadily growing for the past few years. We are able to offer a lot of flexibility with the hours that you work and the work is always interesting. Despite being a small clinic, we perform our fair share of surgery and complex dental work, and we enjoy managing emergencies and interesting medical cases. There is also scope for management duties if this is an area in which you are interested.
We are proud to provide our patients and clients with gold-standard medical care and as such have a fully equipped laboratory including in-house blood testing, digital radiology, ultrasound, dentistry, dental radiography and surgical facilities. We enjoy empowering our nurses so if you enjoy using this equipment, or would like to be taught, we are more than happy to do so!
As a close-knit team, it is important to us that any new member is in alignment with our clinic culture of ‘Care with Kindness’. We use this philosophy in every part of our day: towards our patients, our clients and towards each other. Being kind is the best way to ensure that our workplace is a genuinely enjoyable and fulfilling place to be, and we expect all our employees to uphold this philosophy. We also recognise the role that good mental health and an appropriate workload has in the workplace. Accordingly, we do not over-book our days, we enjoy having lunch together, and we provide our employees with access to anonymous and free professional support. Helping to care for the well-being of our staff is a big priority for us here at Kaleen.
We are a part of a locally owned group of vet clinics; the Capital Paws Group. We share resources between our clinics, which allows us to provide an array of medical and surgical treatment options for our patients. It also means that we usually have other appointment options to offer our clients and patients if we cannot see them. This group is a great way to meet like-minded individuals working at other veterinary clinics across Canberra, both at social gatherings and regular training sessions that allow our staff to keep their skills up to date and ahead of the pack.
If you have an interest in volunteer work, our group runs bi-annual trips to the NT to provide health care for dogs and cats in the remote indigenous communities of Utopia. Feel free to ask us about opportunities to be involved with this program.
Pay
We pay above award wages, with the specific wage depending on experience, Saturday rates, and we pay out overtime on the rare instances it is required.
