The Role

The Vocational Specialist position supports the (IPS) Coordinator within the Individual Placement and Support Program to provide vocational assistance to young people with mental illness up to the age of 25.

The Vocational Specialist will work with young people who experience barriers to employment and/or education to support them to achieve their education or vocational goals. This will involve outreach combined with excellent youth engagement skills to ensure young people are well supported and linked to suitable employment opportunities. 

The successful candidate will

• Provide specialist individualised career assistance tailored to each participants preferences, choices, and goals.
• Develop and monitor individual Career Plans for IPS participants including strategies to overcome identified barriers to engagement in employment and/or education. 
• Provide regular support to participants via case management/case work practices and review progression against Career Plan. 
• Work with the Individual Placement and Support Coordinator to develop partnerships with external organisations that increase access to vocational opportunities for young people.
• Advocate on behalf of the young person with other workers, schools, and employers to enhance service access. 
• Have a Tertiary Qualification, such as Youth Work, Social Work, relevant health qualifications, and relevant professional registration as required. 
• Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with young people.
